Lockdown is from July 3rd, @diamondgeezer had the details. The boater community (on Continuous Cruising licences) will be queuing up at the locks, displaced by British Waterways' high-paying tourist clientelle. Cyclists and walkers will loose their privileged access to the towpath.

Update, Sat 7/7:
A little late in the day cycling and walking folk are up in arms. Suddenly there's a protest website and there's to be a demo, the Guardian's been live-blogging it. Lockdown LOCOG have gone that extra mile and issued a 'statement'.

From a recent conversation

From a recent conversation with someone who told me they knew, these vibration sensor armed barriers which extend into the riverbed cost £500,000 a pop. I believe there are 4 of them in total - there was due to be another down by Red Diesel, just under the Bow Flyover.

Lockdown - literally

I have been told by one who knows that the cost per gate of these structures (I believe there are 4 in all - one is down my Red Diesel just past the Bow Flyover) is £500,000. They extend into the bed of the river and have vibration sensors built in.
I wonder who would really want to swim up, or down, that stretch of the Lea to gain access to the sporting venue...
