Builders and The Games: Films and discussion
Builders and The Games: Films and discussion about the building of the Olympic Park and what it did and (didn’t do) for construction workers (and for young people trying to get into construction).
August 2nd 6.0pm Raven Row Gallery, 56 Artillery Lane London E1 7LS. (Liverpool St. Station tube/rail)
‘Builders and the Games’ (dir. Margaret Dickinson) was shot over 5 years around and occasionally inside the Olympic Park, focusing on construction workers. It reflects on the promises, achievements and disappointments but also sets them in a wider context of other major developments in London and of a long struggle for better conditions, more training opportunities and fair access to jobs.
Also showing are four short films made by emerging filmmakers giving their own take on a subject to do with construction in London.
‘Pudding Mill Lane’ by Ausra Linkevicuite
‘The Artist and the Plumber’ by Carmen Valerio
‘The Carpenter’ Ilinca Calugareanu
‘Cricklewood Craic’ by Andrew Berekdar
Afterwards there will be a discussion led by Anthropologist/ filmmaker Mao Mollona.
The event will finish about 8.00pm
