London's 2012 Olympics: Gentrification, Corporate Interest and Resistance
It is now less than 3 years until the London Olympics. The construction, displacement, gentrification and privatisation associated with the Games are well under way, but have been met with resistance and criticism from diverse groups of people.
The Games impact on a broad range of social and ecological issues from access to housing and environmental destruction to increased surveillance and a decline in community facilities.
Can we make the most of the situation and use the spectacle of the Games to strengthen networks working on the problems it exacerbates?
This workshop will discuss the effects of the Games and how we can continue to challenge and create alternatives to gentrification in London and beyond.
